Internship/Service Experience:
If I could do my summer internship in Chicago again, I would. Not because I would do things differently, but because I enjoyed it that much. Chicago was my bridge to being truly independent. Going into the internship I had hoped to become a better student, a better researcher, to serve others more effectively. I had hoped better understand the society in which we live, and to have greater compassion and empathy towards others. While I believe my Chicago experience helped me achieve every single goal, I also appreciated the opportunity it provided to understand myself better in terms of my values and goals for the future. Looking back, I now understand that the reason for my successful experience was due to my eager, curious, and persistent attitude. I knew I had a wonderful opportunity, and I was determined to make the most of it. With a positive attitude, I was able to turn obstacles into opportunities and learning experiences. That summer truly reinforced my belief that life is about creating your own opportunities, while at the same time building relationships that are inspirational, supportive, and mutually beneficial.
