Internship/Service Experience:
My experience this past summer was one filled with personal growth and discovery. As a pre-med major, I used my internship as an opportunity to assist with medical research at one of the best children's hospitals in Cleveland, the Cleveland Clinic. My mentor not only taught me more about medicine and the practice than I had learned from anyone else, but challenged me to be self reliant, confident, and professional in everything I did. The two best highlights of my internship were that I watched several pediatric heart surgeries and that I wrote a research article that has been submitted for publication in a scientific journal. At the end of each week, I also enjoyed the service learning part of the internship. I volunteered with Youth Outdoors, a program that organized fishing, kayaking, and biking trips for inner city children. Overall, it was one of the most rewarding summer experiences I have had.
